About MUTE

MUTE is an independent clothing brand that makes heavyweight tees with one small print and nothing else. It's designed in Oxford, Michigan, printed to order in the USA, and sold online at muteclothing.net. The name comes from 黙 (moku), the Japanese kanji for silence.

What MUTE makes

Minimalist Japanese-inspired streetwear: oversized, unisex heavyweight t-shirts with a single small print on the left chest or upper back. Some designs carry a quiet reference to Japanese culture, film or anime, shown through symbols, kanji and line drawings rather than characters. The rest of the shirt is left alone.

The rules

• No logos. Nothing borrowed, nothing licensed. Every mark is original to MUTE.
• Small prints. Left chest or upper back, nothing over 8 inches.
• Two inks, max. One base and one accent, usually black or bone, sometimes red.

The tee

Every MUTE tee is printed on a Shaka Wear Max Heavyweight blank: 7.5 oz cotton, oversized cut with a slight drop shoulder, sizes S to 7XL. Black, White and Dark Grey are 100% USA cotton. Prints are direct-to-garment with water-based ink. Every core tee is $46.

The Bank

The Bank is a set of unreleased MUTE designs that are never sold at any price. Buy any two tees and you unlock one Bank piece free with your order. Each piece can be held once per person, and new pieces are added over time.

Shipping and sizing

Tees are printed to order. Most orders ship in 2 to 7 business days, and US delivery takes 2 to 5 business days after that. The cut is oversized; size up one for a baggier fit. Because every tee is made to order, there are no returns for size or change of mind. A size swap is $20 within 14 days of delivery, and misprints or damage are replaced free within 30 days.
